Britain's most talented designers were put on the runway at London Fashion Week this year, And they absolutely rocked it!
This year was filled with an awe-inspiring amalgam of textures, colours and patterns that are sure to dominate your closet next year. Although some of the most noticeable designers were absent from the event, designers like Harris Reed and Abigail Ajobi totally stole the show.
Just like anything else, London Fashion Week was not spared from the COVID restrictions. All the attendees required proof of vaccination. Despite this, the talk during the shows was about the unique themes and styles taking over wardrobes next year.
Here are some of the prominent trends that ruled the London Fashion Week this year.
1. Citrus Hues
There is nothing we crave more than refreshing colours after spending two years locked at home in pyjamas. The designers tried to infuse lively citrus hues like yellow, grapefruit and lime green with other statement embellishments to make them stand out.
The best part? With all the sequins and layering, these colours genuinely came together to create the perfect balance to feast your eyes. Thus, it is never a bad idea to stay up to trends and add a few gorgeous citrusy colours into our wardrobes next year.
2. Neon Brights
If you have noticed the pattern, designers were all about going the extra mile to stay fun and refreshing. While Neon brights are generally associated with sporty looks, the designers from this year showed how to look sophisticated in neons.
The acid greens and bright yellows came out quite polished and flattering. Just like the theme of their Spring’22 collection, the modern designs mixed with the exaggeration of neons perfectly flirted with the following year’s optimistic expectations.
But what makes this year special is how designers like Eudon Choi tempered the vibrant colours with neutral tones like light beige and rust browns to make these outfits an excellent choice for everyday wear.

3. The return of corsets
Just like Neons, corsets are back in the game!
Although this fact was evident at the Met Gala, London Fashion Week took it to the next level. They aim to make corsets easier for everyday wear with their fabric choices like softer satin at Toga or prints on graphic t-shirts at Vivienne Westwood. This helps to create the ever needed convenience to flaunt these statement pieces every day.
That said, an excellent example of such corsets would be from Preen by Thornton Bregazzi and Yuhan Wang. They went creative by layering softness corsets on floral lace dresses to accentuate the curves and bring out the colourful patterns on the outfit. The femininity of the overall looks is already enticing many influencers to incorporate corsets into their wardrobe.
4. Hypecraft
No fashion show is complete without some solid Hypecraft. But this time, Matty Bovan made it the ultimate fashion choice for SS22’s key trends. The outfits were designed by infusing all the creativity that the designers had during the pandemic.
While a handful of designers went with more traditional designs, some also did an incredible job combining the contemporary styles. For example, the multicolour patchwork cardigan by Preen By Thornton Bregazzi is inspired by Harry Styles’ J.W.Anderson knit, which made its mark on most TikTok videos.
Outside your comfort, you also get to see the beefed-up version of your regular trousers using Nicholas Daley’s tie-dye, exaggerated granny square crochet blankets and everything in between. Here, you will also get to see iconic pieces with signature statement Hypecraft work of world-renowned U.K. designers that stole the show!
5. Bodycon
British designers never fail to make a mark with their breath-taking bodycon dresses with bold colours made explicitly for spring 2021. All the cutouts, embellishments and clingy fits offered character with each dress to help you speak your personality out loud.
Just when you pack your winter coats, winter boots and stylish gloves, these trending bodycon dresses can wrap your body in fashionable yet comfortable pieces.
6. Netting
Gone are days when nets were only used for sporty or school wear.
These skin revealing garments took things to a whole new level with their metallic colours and unique fabrics. The London fashion week was ruled by designers like JW Anderson and Supriya Lele, who created these sexy and appealing net garments.

7. Comfort first
Let’s admit it, although the lockdown didn’t give you enough opportunities to dress up like you always did, it spoiled us to crave comfort in outfits. And this, British designers, understand.
When aesthetics meet comfort, you give up everything to get your hands on it. From the ballet flats to schoolboy loafers to slip ons, everything at the Fashion week brought utmost comfort for all the fashionistas out there.
You will also get to see celebrities like Dakota Johnson and Lily Rose-Depp effortlessly flaunting the ballet flats that can complement any outfit.
Other than that, the fuzzy style and laid-back sweatpants were a great way to stay true to your style from the lockdown.
