Finally, after a long year and a half of uncertainty, fashion fiends were able to see the first live collaboration of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons for Prada SS22. Both Milan and Shanghai hosted the pair whose work journey began during the height of the pandemic. The collection represented the diversity of what one believes to be sexy and what is in turn sexualised. It included baggier garments cinched at the waist, a lot of black and interpretations of the iconic sexy LBD. Short mini skirts appeared to be the theme of the night, whilst in keeping with Prada’s iconic look.

This nod to the sixties and seventies was confirmed by Prada : “We thought of words like elegant—but this feels so old-fashioned. Really, it’s about a language of seduction that always leads back to the body. Using these ideas, these references to historical pieces, the collection is an investigation of what they mean today.” (Vogue, 2021)
New technology was used to showcase hairstyles and makeup with the models’ haircuts in the shanghai show being digitally enhanced by hairstylist Guido Palau. This virtual augmenting created a more edgy, and overall modern look for Prada. Showing the new ways technology has shaped the beauty and fashion industry.

The show took place in two locations to highlight globalisation. “They bring two groups of people, on two sides of the world, together in a modern community.” (Prada Group, 2021)
The show in itself was a glimpse into life after lockdown and the way in which fashion and technology affect the world we live in.
