In review: Jacquemus Autumn/Winter 2021/22 collection

Simon Porte Jacquemus’ AW21/22 collection had heads turning in Paris this week. The show was all about skin, sexuality and a lot of pink. The focus: functionality with an element of sexiness. Jacquemus himself commented : “I wanted to focus on the clothes, the silhouettes, the colours, the fabrics, the details and the energy of the models". This is clearly shown throughout the collection, with a merging of Ski wear and underwear. The clothes, clearly representing a move away from the lockdown of last year. The collection is a step up and has a real emphasis on quality over quantity, moving away from Jacquemus' Zara esq collections.

Personally, it is not my favourite collection, but I will praise Jacquemus for their range models. Although, a couple of plus sized models does not equal full diversity, this show was a step in the right direction, especially in Paris. The Jacquemus AW21/22 collection showcased adaptability, a merging of seasons, and a celebration of identity. Hopefully, this diversity is not just performative and Jacquemus hires a diverse mix of people behind the scenes as well as in front of the camera.
