Milan Fashion Week has just ended on the 27th of September, with a selection of show-stopping moments for Spring 2022. With Dua Lipa’s modelling debut for Versace, and other famous faces like Naomi Campbell and Lourdes Leon, the runways were filled with looks inspired by the 00’s and the 60’s. Just like any other year, there was one animal print in particular that has proven the most popular. The looks not only offered comfort, considering what has been happening during the past year and a half, but also there was an array of party ready styles, inspiring party goers to get glammed up for those well-deserved nights out after a period of closures.
So, let’s have a look at the main trends that have graced the Milan Fashion Week runways this fall:
· On Wednesdays we wear (dusty) pink. That’s right, dusty pink is in style again, and we could not be happier. Blumarine have truly brought out the spirit of Mean Girls with their pink mini skirts and crop tops. Meanwhile, Fendi presented a beautiful 2000’s inspired blush pink suit and Prada went with a dusty pink mod mini dress. Love it!
· Party-ready anoraks! This year, they have really thought about the practicality of partywear. Basically, you can have your cake and eat it, too, with your sparkling mini dress underneath a waterproof coat, and still look chic and trendy.
· Feathers all around. Fendi, Max Mara, Roberto Cavalli, Ermano Scervino and Huishan Zhang have all beautifully presented some serious plumage situations.
· 60’s Mod mini dresses. One thing is clear: you can never lose with some retro vibes. Missoni, Vesace, Tod and Emilio Pucci seem to agree, adding some 60’s inspired goodness to their runways.
· Crochet, baby! Some might call crochet old fashioned, but the designers at Milan Fashion week disagree. There were plenty of looks incorporating the patterns and vibrant colours crochet can offer, with names like Jil Sander and Marco Rambaldi coming to mind.
· Pool party vibes. Another 00’s inspired trend with lots of bikini tops worn under jackets. It looks casual, summery and like you just turned up from the poolside, and we are here for it. This was also one of the top trends in New York.
· Eye of the tiger. Just like any other year, animal prints were no stranger to the runways. Roberto Cavalli, especially, has blown us away with his tiger masterpieces, and this pattern seems to be the most popular this year.
· Transparency is key.
Just like in life, so it is in Milan Fashion Week this year: translucent layers are on the rise, whether it is a see through top, or bottoms. Emporio Armani and Antonio Marras have go the right idea.
Therefore, not only have the Italians thought about you staying warm and dry while partying it up this coming Spring, but also offered plenty of comfort with flowy fabrics, tiger prints and plumage with their 00’s inspired looks. Don’t forget to wear dusty pink on Wednesdays and put on those mod mini dresses. They also got us ready for both, the beach and the street, at the same time. Moreover, you can definitely stay trendy wearing your handmade crochet top! With that said, there have been some truly colourful and thought out shows to remember.
